Forest the Earth
"Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy." -Psalm 96:12
Trees are important to the flourishing of human, plant and animal life on planet Earth. Trees are also important to our faith and show up at some of the most poignant and powerful moments in scripture (see: Trees in the garden of Eden, the dead tree upon which Jesus was crucified, the trees in the book of Ezekiel and Revelation describe trees that have leaves that are for the healing of the nations). We strive to plant trees in order preserve our home, to honor our Creator and to demonstrate that we believe in a better tomorrow.
"A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit" -Greek Proverb
Our first project has been to support and assist with Canopy’s efforts to give free fruit trees to faith communities in East Palo Alto.
We are in the process of developing our relationship with California Interfaith Power & Light’s tree planting efforts in faith communities across California: “Our Sacred Canopy Project: Planting free trees at congregations across California.”
We heartily recommend people to check out Creation Justice Ministries’ incredibly valuable and growingly comprehensive theological and scientific resource: "The Canopy of Creation: Trees, Faith, and the World of Justice"
We also strongly encourage people to check out Creation Justice Ministries’ Tree Equity project for opportunities to partner with their work in various cities around the USA!
